I'll never eat at Kenny Rogers again

Spent RM60 on books and RM40 on dinner. The books were by far the better deal.

We do what we can :)

I just put Adeline & John Mark's wedding pictures up on Facebook. Every time there's an event like this, I wish I had a better camera... took 270 pictures, a lot of them blur or full of noise because of the crappy lighting. But if I'd used flash they'd be overexposed. Oh well...

Connecting the dots

Reading John Scalzi's post about people who are unaware that they are incompetent, and the New York Times article he references, reminded me of two things:
  1. The American Idol auditions. People who can't sing, and are not only told they can't sing, but told by judges with enough experience in the music industry that you'd expect they'd know what they were talking about: yet some of those Idol-hopefuls still refuse to believe the judges when told they simply can't sing.

  2. The old Arabic proverb.
He who knows and knows he knows,
    He is wise; follow him.
He who knows not and knows he knows not,
He is a child; teach him.
He who knows and knows not he knows,
    He is asleep; wake him.
He who knows not and knows not he knows not,
He is a fool; shun him!

All in a day's work

Things I've learnt today:
  1. You can get Irfanview to save your image to a certain file size while retaining the dimensions of the picture.

  2. Google does really have the answer to everything. I found the above by googling... because Blogger's help FAQ said the background image should be less than 250KB in size.

  3. Free image hosting sites like Flickr, Photobucket and Picasa always resize your file upon upload to a common or convenient size... my 1800 x 1354 file became 1024 x 770 in Flickr, 1024 x 768 in Photobucket and 800 x 602 in Picasa. Bah!

  4. All things being equal (or nearly equal), people will generally go with the service they're most familiar with. In my case, this is Flickr. I'm sorry, Google, but Picasa is just somehow clunky and unfriendly to me.

  5. There are no nice free sunflower templates for Blogger anywhere on the Web... or if there are, Google can't find them :p

I'm reminded why I hardly ever change blog templates. *grimace*

Random thoughts

After 6 games of online Scrabble: What criteria is used for words in the Scrabble dictionary? How can ZEN be invalid, yet BORINGS valid?!

After watching The Ugly Truth: What does a producer really do? We all know a director directs and a producer produces, yet it's so much easier to deduce what a director's job consists of or amounts to. What's involved in producing?

After a week of reviving my Twitter account: How did an app with the most user-unfriendly interface/homepage manage get so popular? This is ridiculous!

Yes, I'm now going to Google the first two. Bai!
